Registered Sex Offender Used As Prosector's Key Witness

Forced into pro se representation (representing oneself), Tomas Afeworki had a mere 72 hours to prepare for trial wherein he questioned the Prosecutor's key witness Haylom Gebra, a registered sex offender, revealing a mounting list of discrepancies.

Perjured Witness

  • Haylom Gebra testified that he was given immigration papers (line 9)

  • When questioned,  Gebra's mention of immigration papers was objected by the Prosecutor because it  violated a pretrial ruling (line 14)

  • Many documents regarding Gebra's alleged deportation/immigration status were concealed nor could be raised to discuss

  • Gebra's account of events leading to the crime he allegedly witnessed revealed discrepancies  including an unknown, uninvestigated  suspect wearing a green jacket who was present during the entire duration of the crime

  • Afeworki questioned Gebra about said suspect

  •  Gebra continued to disclose details about the unknown suspect in a green jacket who was following and attempting to intimidate him

  • He described the suspect, "looking at me and all kind of crazy look" (line 2)

  • After alleging to witness the murder of his friend, Gebra admitted to leaving the scene without calling 911, "I went to the bus, took the bus and went to my business."  (line 15)
