On Oct. 26, 2010, Tomas Afeworki was arrested for a crime he did not commit. Seattle Police planted evidence and perjured to frame him for murder. After 16 years of wrongful imprisonment, he continues to fight for his freedom and encourages those who recognize corrupt judicial and police systems to examine the stunning evidence of his case.
However, Prosecutor Amy Meckling—who serves as Judge David Keenan's personal civil defense attorney—opposed the motion.
On January 19, 2024, Judge David Keenan denied the motion without an evidentiary hearing, despite legal requirements under Brady v. Maryland and subsequent federal rulings. This decision triggered his current appeal.
